What’s Going on with Velocity Gamer?

Update: The new look for the site is pretty much essentially done, we hope you like the look of the site as we spent literally all day working on it. Right now, we’re focusing on getting our reviews moved over as the old theme apparently stored them on a separate database. Velocity Gamer will still cover everything that it normally does, just with a higher emphasis on competitive gaming ie. MLG, Gamebattles and EVO, along with reviews of gaming gear and so on. Were also going to put a focus on the community as well, highlighting awesome game videos from around the net. Hopefully we can return Velocity Gamer to its former state and you can help by commenting and supporting us by sharing our news around the net. The future is looking brighter for Velocity Gamer, starting today.

Over the past day or so, you may have been wondering what the heck is going on with the site. For over a week, the login has been busted and we finally found out what the problem was. As you can tell, the theme we were using is gone and that’s because the theme itself was the problem. The database got futzed up somehow, but that’s OK because we came up with a new direction for Velocity Gamer in the process.

Competitive Gaming, What does it mean to you? It means a lot to a lot of people, judging by the success of games like Halo and Call of Duty. So much so that we think it’ll be a great fit for VGNetworks and a great compliment to our sister site OnlySP that focuses on single player gaming exclusively.

You’d be hard pressed to find many other sites that cover this sort of thing. MLG, EVO, and various other competitive gaming leagues don’t really get a lot of coverage. If we can bring that coverage here at Velocity, we think we bring in a whole new audience here.

We can even expand our coverage to include interviews with pro gamers, reviews of the top gaming gear on the market, videos, and maybe even host some tournaments of our own some day.

Our vision for the site was… well, we had it at one point and it got lost. So now we have another one and we’re interested in seeing where it takes us. The direction we’re going is somewhat uncharted as far as video game websites go, so there’s not a surefire way to tell if it’ll do wonders for visitors. It’s something we’re willing to pursue and see where it takes us, though. We’d love it if you’d stick around to see what’s coming soon!
