Two games for the Snipers hitting in 2012
I’m going to take a wild stab in the dark and assume that, as a reader of VelocityGamer, you’ve played a shooter sometime in your life. Whether you were the sniper in question or on the receiving end of that iconic laser sight, sniping has been a definite part of the shooter experience for ages. But there have been very few games released that center around the act of sniping itself. Which I guess explains why the games industry has seen fit to drop two whole games based entirely around shooting guys from far away with a high-powered scoped gun.
The first is Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2, a sequel to a budget title that was pushed back repeatedly. Not much is known about it besides the use of CryEngine 3 and its (supposed) release date of June 26, 2012. If it’s anything like the first Ghost Warrior, it will probably contain hyper-realistic sniping mechanics (including breathing rate, of all things) and some form of multiplayer. You can see the live-action trailer here.
We’ve got more information on Sniper Elite V2, though. Sniper Elite came out in 2005, which means it’s long overdue for a sequel (or a reboot, as Giant Bomb’s wiki tells me). Much like its predecessor (Sniper Elite), the first Ghost Warrior, and Police Quest: SWAT, it has a hyper-realistic portrayal of sniping. Dropoff, wind, muzzle velocity, and several other conditions will have an effect on where your bullet will land. Much like the first Sniper Elite, V2 will be set during the Second World War. Although you could be forgiven for assuming ‘V2′ means ‘Version 2′ or something similar, you’d actually be wrong. The plot of the game will center around the V2 missile the German forces developed and will probably feature a bald German scientist in glasses. Sniper Elite V2 will be out sometime in May of this year, and you can see the trailer here.
So which Sniper sequel are you looking forward to the most? Let us know in the comments!
