Sledgehammer Working On Next-Gen Call of Duty?

Modern Warfare 3 released only a few months ago and we already have confirmation of a new Call of Duty set for release at the end of this year. While this is most likely to be coming from old hat series developer Treyarch, Sledgehammer Games, one of the studios that aided Infinity Ward with Modern Warfare 3 after their inner turmoil, has a number of job postings on their website which could point to their involvement with creating a game for the next generation of consoles. In addition to this, their website makes no secret of their continued forays into the series, as several references can easily be found to the Call of Duty series.

While it could simply be that they are coy on revealing a new, unrelated game, or have neglected to mention that they are working on other projects, it is quite as likely that the development duties of the series will be split three ways, giving each team a three year incubation period, rather than the two they currently have. Of course, they could always continue to work in tandem with either of the other studios to increase the manpower, or they could be working on creating a new engine for future games to run on, but that much is all speculation. What is undeniable is that Call of Duty will survive into the next generation of consoles. It is far too lucrative a franchise for Activision to end it now.

So what do you think? Are they flying solo with a new entry, or creating the tools for the other teams? Let us know.
