Set Sail in First ‘Amalur’ Expansion, Coming in March

Anyone who has played Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning as much as I have knows just how much there is to see and do, but it looks like 38 Studios and Big Huge Games are giving us more. The Legend of Dead Kel is the first full expansion pack for the epic RPG, giving players a new location with new quests and loot, and some huge bonuses.

The story of Dead Kel finds players shipwrecked on a fully-explorable island known as Gallows End, which happens to be the home of an undead pirate king named, of course, Dead Kel. He’s ruthless, having spent hundreds of years killing just about everyone he encounters, and it’s up to you to kill him and his three right-hand pirates. Along for the ride is a new companion by the name of Captain Brattigan, a fumbling young woman.

The main story quest will reportedly last around 4 hours, but the island will also be home to several side-quests. Aside from the new weapons and other loot available, it seems the biggest draw to the expansion is a new stash location called Gravehal Keep, which is much more than the average houses scattered across the lands of Amalur. Gravehal Keep is able to be upgraded with entirely new facilities, which can also be upgraded to provide the player huge bonuses. One of the most interesting of these is the stable, which gives players access to pets such as bears and spiders, which can be trained and fed, and also provide the player with upgrades like health boosts and more.

The Legend of Dead Kel will be released on PSN, Xbox Live, Origin, and Steam simultaneously on March 20, for only $9.99. So, Amalur fans, are you ready to set sail and hunt for booty?
