A new trailer has confirmed the release date for upcoming Volition title, Saints Row 4, slating it to hit store shelves on August 20th in North America and August 23rd everywhere else in the world. The game is the first in the series since both the Saints Row IP and Volition were purchased by publisher Deep Silver from THQ.
It would seem that the Saints Row franchise will still be as wacky as before under the new publisher, with the trailer showing us some more of the silly gameplay we have come to expect from the series. Furthermore the leader of the Third Street Saints (the protagonist of the series) is set to become president of the United States, add some alien weaponry and super powers into the mix and we have, what is shaping up to be, one odd ball game. Why do the Saints suddenly have super powers you might ask? In a recent press release Deep Silver said:
“Now the larger-than-life insanity of the Saints series gets a new twist with a catastrophic alien invasion, and the aliens have transported the Saints to a bizarro-Steelport simulation. Wield gargantuan superpowers and fight to free humanity from alien granddaddy Zinyak’s mental grasp. Escape the simulation that’s trapped the Saints crew, or die trying.” – Deep Silver press release
Saints Row 4 is set to come to PC and “current generation consoles”, however Joystiq clarified that this does not include the Nintendo Wii U. You can watch the full announcement trailer for the game below.
