Report: Warner Bros. Interactive to release next Batman game 2014

Batman: Arkham City  was the 2011 follow up to Rocksteady’s game of the year Batman: Arkham Asylum, which portrayed the caped crusader, dealing with some of the most notrious criminals in the Batman universe. Much like Asylum, City also had a few easter eggs that hinted at a sequel and it now appears that Rocksteady is currently working on the next game in the franchise.

The yet to be named prequel appears to be following the “silver age” of DC comics, during which the Justice League was formed according to Variety. The report goes on to say further that the game will deal with Batman’s first meeting of the Joker as well.

It is expected that Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment will try to team a number of DC characters together in some form of a game or another, similar likely to Marvels Ultimate Alliance but nothing has been confirmed as of yet. There is no release date for the game yet but according to the report from Variety we would be looking at a 2014 release.

Batman: Arkham Asylum was released in 2009, followed by its sequel two years later. Arkham City sold 2 million units worldwide in its first week, and reached 6 million within its first month.
