Q.U.B.E Makes enough revenue to pay back Indie Fund
Indie Fund has just announced that Q.U.B.E, developed by Toxic Games has successfully paid back the entire fund provided for them in just 4 days after its initial release!
Indie Fund is a company that just started a funding program in which they provide funds to indie game designers, and lets the designers pay it back after the release of the game. Once paid, the game company is allowed to take the rest of the sales money as revenue.
Q.U.B.E (Review Here) is a first person puzzler that I personally reviewed earlier this month, and I had fallen in love with its Aperature-like atmosphere and intelligent and complex puzzles. I had no doubt in my mind that this great indie title would reach success after its initial launch. Selling nearly 12,000 copies since its release on the 6th, Toxic Games was able to pay back their entire debt of roughly $90,000 back to Indie Fund, creating the first successful launch for Toxic Games, and the first successful case for Indie Fund.
With the success of the PC exclusive, Toxic Games have remained hopeful for a chance to bring this excellent work of indie game to home consoles in the near future. I believe this is great news, not only does Q.U.B.E expand on a very slim genre, it will give people who enjoyed games like the Portal series to expand their tastes, and see what other options are out there.
Indie Fund just recently starting the funding program, and although this may seem like a little too nice of them, Indie Fund has a really tough approval process to ensure that the game will be a success, not just for them, but for the company developing the game as well. If the revenue is not met after a period of 3 years, Indie Fund relinquishes all debt that was owed to them. Very nice program, huh? Well it takes a lot to get approved, but thankfully their first investment with Toxic Games proved to be very, very successful. Stay tuned for more news!
