PortsCenter #0 – “Doom” PSone

I’ve always been a fan of Ben Paddon’s stuff, which I thought was fairly evident from that glowing paragraph I wrote back in February when we reposted his ‘Gamer VS Publisher’ editorial. Even if you don’t like his GJAIF blog, you still might like his new internet web series PortsCenter. In my opinion, it’s the best example of how to do a documentary web series in the age of YouTube. The writing is snappy, and you learn a few things. It’s not just a nerd in his apartment whinging about the latest Final Fantasy game. We’ve hosted the pilot here for your enjoyment.

PortsCenter in Ben’s own words:

“PortsCenter is a show on the internet all about change. And videogames. Mostly it’s about video games, but there is quite a lot of change, mostly because PortsCenter focuses on ports of games – games that were initially released on one system but later found themselves being rebuilt for and rereleased on another system.

The show will look at a different game each episode, comparing it to the source material and seeing how it holds up. Sometimes later ports of a game build upon the source material spectacularly, and other times… well, it’s less successful. Either way, we should get about ten minutes’ worth of laughs out of the experience. So that’s nice.

In August we wrapped up a successful Kickstarter fundraising effort, pulling together the money needed to produce a full 13-episode run. We’re now in pre-production. Hoorah!”
