Microsoft To Phase Out Online Points Currency System?

Published On January 24, 2012 | By admin | Uncategorized

File this one as a rumour for now, but it is being widely reported that Microsoft will be phasing out their digital currency system, known as Microsoft Points, in favour of the exchange of real world currency. The system has been known to cause confusion for some consumers and also to be a quite the hassle in the need to transfer money into Points before one can purchase downloadable content, and so this move will likely come as a relief to many.

Not only will this affect the Xbox Live service, but also those of the Windows Phone Marketplace and the Zune marketplace. The changeover is currently expected to be fully enforced by the end of this year, bringing the platform holder in line with the PSN, the Android App Store and indeed, most other digital delivery services.

As of the time of writing, Microsoft had declined to comment on the possibility, but we’ll keep you posted if this develops further.
