Microsoft Expanding $99 4GB Xbox and Kinect Bundle Offer
Microsoft has made it clear by now that the console race isn’t a necessity at the moment because the Xbox 360 is still doing well on the market. About a month ago, Microsoft launched a deal for those wanting a 4GB Xbox and a Kinect device for only $99.
The catch was that you had to pay for an Xbox LIVE subscription at an inflated rate for two years AND it was only available at Microsoft stores.
The math actually came out to the bundle costing a bit more than it would if you bought all that separately, $420 up front v. $459 bundle over time. The good thing about it was that the buy-in was a deal for what you’re getting and you could always jump out of the subscription for a termination fee.
Microsoft stores are pretty hard to come by; there aren’t many in the US. So now the deal is expanding to retailers like GameStop and Best Buy which should be a lot easier to find for consumers.
I myself might actually take this offer for the low buy-in and monthly Xbox LIVE subscription for the TV apps on the console alone. It would be cheaper to get set up on that Xbox than it would be to get a TV package and DVR with movie channels like HBO, most likely. The Kinect sensor just sweetens the deal and it is a game console after all.
