Michael Fassbender to Produce and Star in Assassins Creed adaptation
Things are beginning to look good for X-Men: First Class and Prometheus star Michael Fassbender, who played the roles of Magneto and David respectively and will now be helping Produce and lending his superb acting skills to the upcoming adaptation of Ubisoft’s Assassin Creed series.
Confirmed from Variety, Fassbender will produce through his DMC Film label alongside the newly established Ubisoft Motion Pictures group.
Essentially the general plot of the movie thus far is that it revolves around a man who learns his ancestors were trained assassins, after which he is captured by an orgnization with ties to the Templars. They send him back in time to retrieve historical artificats. Sounds familiar no?
If I was a betting man, I would assume from the general plot of the movie and direction the film is going that it will follow the story from the first game Assassins Creed. Consider that in that game Desmond Miles, a modern every day man is captured by the Templars and sent back in time using the Animus, a machine that allows a person to relive ancestral memories which are tied in by DNA somehow.
Fassbender can certainly bring a lot to this role, the first time I saw him was in X-Men: First Class but since, I have seen his excellent acting roles in 300, Inglorious Basterds, Prometheus and his role in Band of Brothers. While it is unclear as to what “role” he’ll play in the upcoming adaptation, I can see his skill being put to good use certainly.
Ubisoft will be developing the film alongside DMC and will have creative control, with no plans to outsource to a studio for marketing until the film is complete. Clearly they learned their lesson with Disney’s Prince of Persia adaptation, a summer movie that had so much hype going into it and never really delivered in the way it was supposed to. Currently there is no release date for the movie but if I had to guess it would more then likely be a 2014 release.

Fassbender and Assassin's Creed? I'm in
Good choice for the part, looking forward to seeing this.
I can't wait for it either. Not sure if I could see him playing Desmond but certainly his acting skills would further enhance the film.
