Lost Planet 3 new gameplay footage looks pretty familiar
For those of you who’ve been itching to return to EDN III with all of its large, open environs and hookshot-love, it’s starting to look like there’s some sad news in store. The game’s still coming out, of course, but the latest footage released by Capcom paints Lost Planet 3 as something more along the lines of Dead Space.
As you can see inbetween all the German, there seems to be a larger focus on slowly ambling through dimly-lit, blue-toned corridors, waiting for the next necromo-..err.. Akrid, to rear it’s ugly head.
Now, I won’t lie, there aren’t many ways to do space horror that don’t involve tight corridors and overrun space-habitats, so putting a Dead Space stamp on all future sci-fi horror games just isn’t fair. The rub of all this is just how the transition has gone from action game to what seems like a survival horror game. We’re coming to this after shooting up giant sandworms while hijacking trains.
Of course, without further exposure, it’s also unfair to be too unexcited about the game and it’s seeming deviance from more-typical Lost Planet fare (It’s worth noting that we are getting closer to what the original Lost Planet had in mind, vaguely). The first-person mech bits still look good and stompy, which is always a critical factor of mech wellness, though I hope there’s more variety in the combat than just “Pick up Akrid with hydraulic clamp. Drill Akrid with mining drill. Rinse and repeat.”
Either way, stay tuned for more info as it comes. Lost Planet 3′s still set for a 2013 release, and it looks like it’s well on its way. How do you guys feel about Capcom’s seeming inability to settle on a tone for the series?
