Killzone 3 Multiplayer Going Free-To-Play On PSN
Killzone 3 is widely regarded as one of the better online experiences of 2011, despite a few niggling flaws and minor drawbacks, but the game failed to set the sales charts on fire, leading to a swift dwindling of the number of players that continue to partake of the experience. In an interesting move, Sony have today announced that the multiplayer portion of the game will soon become available on the PSN for free, in part. What will be without cost is the ability to play on the servers and the maps that launched alongside the game, however there will be a cap to the player level, the weapons that can be accessed and the skills that can be attained. To unlock these, a fee of $14.99 USD is required. The download will be available from the 28th of February.
It’s a smart move to raise awareness for the series, as well as gauge whether it is a worthwhile property to continue developing in the future. We here at Velocity Gamer have expressed a desire to see the multiplayer and single player portions of games split in order to better deliver a higher standard of quality for each, depending on the developer’s goal. There is no indication that this is what will follow from Sony, but it could be another step upon that path, following Warhawk and MAG.
So, are you interested, or have you had your fill and are more interested to hear about the next entry in the series? Or would you just prefer to stick to the games that you feel most comfortable with?
