Harmonix Announces Rock Band Blitz (UPDATED)

Rock Band still has new DLC every week and has for about 4 years now. The Rock Band Network has extended the DLC catalog even more. Now, Harmonix extends the Rock Band series again with Rock Band Blitz.

G4TV had the first scoop on the game; Harmonix’s latest venture with the Rock Band name. It’s an arcade game for XBLA and PSN that is meant to be a pick up and play Rock Band, switching up the accustomed plastic instrument game play of the proper Rock Band titles. The game ships with 25 songs that can be playable in Rock Band 3 and vice versa WITHOUT a plastic instrument.

Switch between different tracks to get the best score!

UPDATE: Blitz will give players to switch between instrument tracks like bass, drums, and guitar by pressing the shoulder buttons, similar to Rock Band Unplugged and Amplitude; removing the band element and putting you in charge of all the tracks. Players will need to obtain power-ups and switch tracks to achieve the high score.

Most of the 3,700 tracks on the Rock Band store will be available to play in Blitz as well as the 20+ tracks on Blitz to be playable in Rock Band 3. As a side-note, if you’re not thrilled about not getting to use your expensive plastic instruments or would prefer a proper Rock Band experience, just think of this as a big track pack for $10 or $15.
