A top Microsoft executive announced that Halo 4 would work with the Surface tablet during a panel at Venturebeat’s GameBeat 2012 conference, according to a VentureBeat article.
Don Mattrick, president of the Interactive Entertainment Business section of Microsoft, casually brought it up during the panel, but refused to offer further details on the subject.
Now, what that actually means is completely up in the air for most of us. We’ve been told to expect some sort of synergy between console games and Surface apps, but we’ve never really had any concrete idea of what that would look like.
In the case of Halo 4, it could go from one end, with some minimal app features for convenience being run on the Surface tablet, to the whole other extreme where we’d be streaming Halo 4 onto the tablet and playing with a gamepad. In the case of the latter, it would certainly make for a nice incentive to actually purchase a Surface tablet in a consumer market dominated by Apple’s iPad.
Either way, I’m feeling WiiU vibes all over with this announcement. Would anyone here feel more compelled to purchase a Surface tablet if it had a strong level of synergy with console games?
