Free Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer DLC Next Week, Detailed
Mass Effect 3 has enjoyed a couple free add-ons so far for it’s engrossing multiplayer. The assumption as to why they’re free is that you have to unlock the characters and weapons in these add-ons with the purchase oof in-game ‘packs’. These packs can be bought with in-game currency if you didn’t already know but they can also be bought with real currency.
There has been confirmation now that the rumored ‘Earth’ DLC is coming to Xbox LIVE on the 17th via Xbox LIVE’s Major Nelson. As far as the PC and PS3, a release date is unsure but I’d count on receiving it sometime this month. UPDATE: PS3 and PC will release on July 17th as well
It will be a free add-on once again but players will have to buy those ‘packs’ in order to get the new stuff, except for the new maps.
The pack includes 6 new N7 classes, 3 new maps, new weapons, and maybe a new difficulty: Platinum. Here are the new classes:
N7 Fury (Adept): Throw, Annihilation Field, Dark Channel
“Fury operatives use implants to fuel biotics and their incredible movement speed. These operatives wind an unpredictable path on the battlefield, moving in and out of combat before returning to unleash a sweeping biotic attack on their unsuspecting targets.”
N7 Destroyer (Soldier): Multi-Frag Grenade, Missile Launcher, Devastator Mode
“The Destroyer’s T5-V Battlesuit gives these strong-but-slow soldiers mech-like protection. Driven by eezo-assisted actuators, these frontline troopers carry heavy weapons onto the battlefield.”
N7 Demolisher (Engineer): Homing Grenade, Arc Grenade, Supply Pylon
“The Demolisher uses grenades to attack at range and to terrorize the battlefield. Demolishers can also create a supply pylon that stocks allies with an unending reserve of grenades and thermal reloads.”
N7 Paladin (Sentinel): Snap Freeze, Incinerate, Energy Drain
“The Paladin carries a powerful omni-shield onto the battlefield to block enemy fire. The Paladin also uses the shield as a heavy-melee weapon that, when modified with incindiery or cryo upgrades, creates a devastating combination attack.”
N7 Shadow (Infiltrator): Tactical Cloak, Shadow Strike, Electric Slash
“Shadow infiltrators use implants to dramatically improve agility, making them slippery combatants on the battlefield. Their monomolecular blades are a menace from cover and close range.”
N7 Slayer (Vanguard): Phase Disruptor, Biotic Charge, Biotic Slash
“Slayers use implants to dramatically improve mobility. Their dizzying sword attacks can hit multiple opponents, and the Slayer’s ability to slip fire makes them hard to pin down on the battlefield.”
Also, here are the load outs for the new classes:
(Adept) N7 Fury: Throw, Annihilation Field, Dark Channel
(Soldier) N7 Destroyer: Multi-Frag Grenade, Missile Launcher, Devastator Mode, T5-V battlesuit
(Engineer) N7 Demolisher: Homing Grenade, Arc Grenade, Supply Pylon, has an explosive Omni-Tool.
(Sentinel) N7 Paladin: Snap Freeze, Incinerate, Energy Drain, has an Omni-Shield.
(Infiltrator) N7 Shadow: Tactical Cloak, Shadow Strike, Electric Slash, has a guddam sword
(Vanguard) N7 Slayer: Phase Disruptor, Biotic Charge, Biotic Slash, has a guddam sword.
This all looks awesome to me. I hadn’t had a chance to play Mass Effect 3 as much as I’d like to recently, but this is a good reason to put other games off for a little bit if you like the multiplayer.
That Slayer class sounds a lot like Kai Leng from the single player. You know, that badass Cerberus guy with the sword? Here’s hoping! Take a look at more pictures in the official announcement on the Bioware blog.
