FIFA 13 bringing 5 exciting new mechanics to the field

EA revealed five new gameplay mechanics today intended to change up the formula with FIFA 13 and create a game that better portrays “all the drama and unpredictability of real-world football,” according to executive producer David Rutter.

One of the most interesting mechanics will be with game’s attacking AI. Changes made to the AI that controls attacking players will allow for far more intelligent choice-making, giving them more freedom and reliability in in making independent choices.

On the defending side, expansions will be made to the Player Impact Engine, giving more dynamic physical confrontations between players. Defenders will react and use physical prowess to affect other players in a muc more extensive manner, with stats like size and strength becoming even more important.

The way actual players will control their on-screen players is also being changed with a mechanic FIFA 13 calls ’1st Touch Control.” These changes will affect the dribbling (No, I did not just learn that dribbling applies to sports outside of basketball) system that will give players more control, which in turn will allow them to employ even more specific tactics. The new control mechanics will also make player control harder to perfect, throwing in more random elements and dependencies on finger-skill.

Another mechanic will include the “Tactical Free Kicks” system, which will allow players to position their players in such a way to create more feints and more elaborate maneuvers. Along with those mechanics, significant changes to FIFA 13′s career mode and online offerings will be made.

FIFA 13 remains set to release in the fall section of this year for.. well.. just about every console you could imagine. In fact, there just might be an Atari version coming. Expect motion support for both the Kinect and the Move! Anyone here excited for this? If so, what is wrong with you?
