Double Fine working on Fan-Funded Project
Double Fine is probably one of my favorite developers out there. I love the talent, like Tim Schafer, Brad Muir, and the recent addition of legend Ron Gilbert. The best thing about Double Fine, though, are the games they make. Each game they make isn’t like the last. Look at Costume Quest and then look at a game like last year’s Trenched (Iron Brigade); two totally different games. Double Fine’s latest, Happy Action Theater, aims for something different by using the Kinect sensor in some pretty neat ways. So what’s next?
The developer is pooling money from their Kick Starter and are making an adventure game with it, and they’re going to film it. Kick Starter is a website that allows people to donate money and, in the words of Double Fine, “make awesome things happen”. I couldn’t be more happy that something like this could happen in the sequel-filled sea of video games of today. The more and more big blockbusters we see, we gamers might get a little burnt out on say, first-person shooters. So thankfully, we can pay these guys to make an adventure game that we can all soon enjoy. I think we’ll be getting a pretty amazing one too judging by the million dollars already raised.
