Bioware: Day 1 Paid DLC for Mass Effect 3

What do you think of story-driven DLC for games? Do you think its stripped from the main game for the sole-purpose of selling it as DLC? Those questions arise once again with the release of Mass Effect 3 on March 6.  According to Kotaku, DLC for the game leaked Feb. 20 on the Xbox LIVE Marketplace possibly spoiling a plot twist.  The worst part of this is that the DLC was 800 Microsoft Points ($10).  Fans have been pitching a fit and it’s to be expected by the way this looks.  Bioware’s Casey Hudson tackled the outrage on Twitter:

“On #ME3, content creators completed the game in January & moved onto the “From Ashes” DLC, free w/ the CE or you can buy seperately.”

I think it’d be O.K. if this was released a week after launch, but having this ready day 1, regardless of time you have in between when you’re done with the game and to charge for it, isn’t O.K.  Optional or not, it makes this DLC look like part of the main game when it’ll be ready on launch day.  Maximizing your time is great but timing really is everything.  I have my Collectors Edition pre-ordered so this won’t affect me but this should be free content if it drops day 1, right?. What do you think? Was EA the culprit here or was this planned from the start? Weigh your opinion in the comments below!
